Just down the road from us we know Edwalton really well, from Conker collecting at Mrs Machins field and Lane to playing golf at the municipal golf course every week. Its not just the lovely sweeping roads that our pupils love so much in Gamston, but the roundabouts at Meadow Covert and Morrisons really enable us to experience these challenging types of junctions really safely. Beckside and Ambleside give us some really nice learning as we can experience maintaining and managing our speed. We can also experience higher speeds on the Gamston Lings Bar, and finally experience a traffic light controlled roundabout at Wheatcroft Island. Being a resident during its early years, Compton Acres is a wonderful area to learn to drive. From managing the hill, up towards Landmere Lane, to experiencing the busy junction of Wilford Lane (and understanding the yellow box junction). We love the hills of its surrounding areas, such as Wilford Hill and it is where we learn how to hill start on Walcote Drive outside my teenage hom, and our very first experience of roundabouts on Boxley Drive, where my grandparents lived most of their lives. Finally, Stanholme Square is where we learn how we can assess if a car is approaching around a blind corner using reflections - it's a great place to learn! Ruddington is our first chance to experience a thriving village, and its surrounding rural roads. It's the first time we exceed 40mph as we approach on Wilford Road, and our first drive on Clifton Lane teaches us how we manage our speed well. Ruddington has some challenging parts, some blind corners near The Green, and the busy area of Church Street. We also love the learning we have with the bling approach zebra crossing on High Street - one of our first thoughts of anticipating what we can't see. What a great place Clifton is to learn! We experience multi-lane driving for the first time on A453 Remembrance Way, multi lane roundabouts at Crusader Roundabout, and the traffic calming measures on Farnborough Road. We experience tram lines and signs for the first time, and understand how to ensure that we don't follow them down 'tram only' areas. Finally we love Clifton for the multiple speed limits, from 20mph to 30mph without any change in road style its our first chance to concentrate on signs, including knowing when we can use the bus lanes. Wilford Village and surrounding areas makes a great place to start your driving experience. We explore how to negotiate the parked vehicles on Main Road and Vernon Avenue, to the traffic controlled speed cushions, tables and bumps of Ruddington Lane. As soon as you are able to, learning to drive will unlock so many freedoms, and achieve greater independence for yourself. Doing this whilst studying is a great way to learn, as you can be developing your employability, whilst learning academically. We understand there are times that learning to drive doesn't mix well with deadlines at school or University, so we allow you to take planned breaks, or, shift lessons so that you don't get too overloaded. We know the pressures that exams and deadlines bring and are here to support you in any way we can.
